Sydnee Distance, NIGP-CPP, CPPB, CCMA, is the Manager of Strategy and Policy at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), where she leads procurement transformation initiatives across the Facilities division. She specializes in building practical, scalable procurement programs, strengthening contract oversight practices, and developing training that helps professionals perform confidently in real-world procurement environments.
With more than a decade of experience across state, local, and private sectors, Sydnee brings a well-rounded understanding of the full procurement lifecycle—from requirements development and solicitation planning to contract administration, vendor performance, and stakeholder support. Her background includes roles in grant management, finance, contract management, and public procurement leadership, allowing her to bridge operational needs with compliant, strategic outcomes.
Sydnee is a John Maxwell-certified Speaker, Trainer, and Coach and serves nationally on the NIGP Talent Council. She is also an active instructor and course facilitator, known for simplifying complex procurement concepts and translating policy into clear, actionable steps for students and practitioners.
She holds a Master of Science in Acquisition and Contract Management and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, and she is currently pursuing a PhD in Organizational Leadership. Sydnee is also the author of The Distance League Needs a Plane, a children’s book that introduces youth to the world of government procurement. She is committed to preparing the next generation of procurement professionals through strategy, education, and practical tools that drive results.
